Many socio-economic issues have led to broken families and alarming growth in the number of young girls living on the streets. Responding to this, Pretoria Community Ministries (as TLF was previously known) established a shelter for girls in 1993 called Lerato House. Some of these children were too young or could not be reunited with their families and needed a more permanent home. Working with Pretoria Community Ministries, Yeast City Housing was able to secure a suitable facility at 36 and 38 Loop Street in Berea. With generous support from the Department of Human Settlements the plan to renovate these two houses became a reality. Now there is space for ten young women between the ages of 11 and 18, who all attend school and are cared for by the two house mothers.
